Well, the logic behind that was basically a way to say thanks to the people who got me into avaition. Romeo Alfa (RA) is for my dad, Ray Andraka, and 1363 is for my EAA chapter, who without i'd stil be thinking i could afford a comanche before collage (yikes :eek:) I don't think i can say 13 then 63 as one part while callng out my tai number. The faa probly does have a problem with it, and it being so long. Now just if i could drop the "N" ??? ???

Goodday from downunder!

All very informative - I was planning to use wet wings on a sort of a 2L but not the full length or anything like it - more like the tanks in an RV-4 (or any of the RV line) - but the RV tanks are separate from the rest of the wing so you would lose the torque box/D-spar effect of the Sonerai wing - so they would have to be made by sealing up the existing design.

My recollection is that the Sonerai wing does not have any controls going through it - if so you could run your tanks the full chord of the wing. will have to ponder that one a bit - where do you put your fuel pickup point on a taildragger?

I haven't got very far into the design yet - I don't know how many ribs you would have to seal to replace the fuselage tank - getting lazy in my old age and tend to rely on CAD programs to do my calculating!

Good point about spins - hadn't thought of it - not planning to do aerobatics but that doesn't mean spins won't happen!
 
You have my sympathy because I have been through this discussion. In a nutshell
The 0-200 will tear itself out from the firewall. 80 hp is the limit. If you want an aircraft engine consider the Jabiru 2200.
The Sonerais are capable of doing some aerobatics. But not if you install wet wings.
There was a builder who put in 13" wing tips. Yes well he pulled the wings off in a steep turn.
At the end of the day IMHO either accept the Sonerai for what it is or choose another design.
If you do build a Sonerai read the advice on the EAA site for homebuilders. Your essential task as a builder is to build the aircraft exactly according to the drawings. Work hard at controlling the empty weight. My SII has the Jabiru engine and weighs just 533 lbs empty.
Fly the aircraft before you start making changes. There may be critical issues you will need to address the fly the aircraft. Save adding weight for those things.

Wow, please at last state that as opinion instead of as fact.
An O-200 will not tear itself from the firewall, well maybe if someone tried to connect to the VW mounting points with no bracing it might but I have seen an O-290-D2 on a sonerai and it flew quite well and could hang it on the prop.
Mine will be O-200 with wet wings and a header tank. no there will be no aerobatics with fuel in the wings but it will be usefull for long Cross country flights.
My current plane, a pa28-235 has 7 hour duration plus reserve and have gotten into reserves several times, my friends in Alaska called me Iron Butt and with the right seat the Sonerai really isn't all that uncomfortable.
I am sure you wouldn't consider my plane a Sonerai anymore and thats OK I don't intend to register it as one.

I read in the past where one poster stated that he had seen a KR2 builder add tubes to his wings and join them for wet wings. This was builder Bill Clapp from Valdosta Ga and he added I believe 4 inch black pvc pipes joined together in each wing. I do not recall what the capacity was but he can be found on the krnet.org website. The problems that I see is that you have to be empty or near empty to fold the wings, and the disconnecting and reconnecting of the fuel lines each time the wings are folded. What Bill did to prevent what the poster was worried about, the fuel sloshing to the wing tip, was to stuff the 2 tubes full of fuel foam before sealing the ends with caps, so that the fuel would not slosh to one end, or explode on ground impact. I have considered staying with the plans style aux tank, but using a drag racing 6 gallon tank full of foam and with sending unit from Sumitt Racing, and possibly substituting a larger unit for the header tank if I can find one that fits the dimensions correctly. They can be had with sending units and are made of plastic for more resistance to damage. Food for thought for all...

This is where I got my 4 point harnesses for my KR2; I figure if it can stand up to drag racing and circle track stresses, then it can handle flying.
