Hi all, I’m building a HH 54” brake to donate to my chapter, and I was curious if others had as well.

Specifically, I was curious how people were able to put the 1.5” hole in the 2.5” rod. I have access to a fairly sizable Clausing lathe. I drilled up by 1/8” increments all the way, but this was still an absolute struggle with coolant, and I still managed to damage bits. I did get it done though. I wish I had spent the money on a rotary table for the mill, but I don’t have space for it since i am about 1600 miles from home.

I’m curious how Mark did it because he strikes me as a pretty non-fancy person in the videos.

The only piece I have left to make is the pivot block, turned from rectangular bar. I’ve never actually used a 4 jaw chuck before, so it will be a good learning experience. If I mess up, I was planning to turn it down from rod and then mill the rectangle.

Thanks,
Connor
