I have seen a few attempts to make an electric powered Ultralight (Aerolight 103, Zigolo, ThunderGull). All of them seem to be extremely positive on the performance and the perceived increase in reliability. The number of batteries they use, typically is giving around 45 +/- minutes of endurance. Interestingly, they all claim to be able to meet Part 103. Batteries are a heavy item, and one guy claimed that the batteries were removeable, thus did not count towards the empty weight measurement of part 103.

Not sure what to think on this. Clearly part 103 was not written when electric power was even viable for aircraft. During Mosaic, will they grant an extra 30 lbs (same as the amount of gas) for electric powered UL's? Will or do they allow batteries to be considered 'removeable'? Or more likely, do nothing.

I must admit that if one could have a legal part 103 electric powered aircraft that was capable of 60 minutes of flight, I'd be on board. 45 minutes of flying is plenty in an open air UL. What do you all think?
