I’m looking at adding a ventral fin to my design for the usual three reasons — I need a tie down eye below by fuselage anyway so why not fair it in; I’d like to define (and reinforce) a specific point where tail strike loads can be considered; and un-maskable vertical surface to resist spins seems nice.
The implementations I’ve seen are rather ad hoc, with little consideration to leading edge radius / trailing edge shape, let alone an actual airfoil profile. Does anyone have any resources (NACA etc) that consider these properties? Since this is a surface that generates vortex lift, I’d expect at least LE radius to matter.
