Is there a certain airframe layout that lends itself most readily to a large range of airspeeds? I have an 800' grass farm runway. Most stol or ultralight designs are not very practical long distance travelers. Could it be possible to design an aircraft that can take off in 500' or less, fly 2 people and a reasonable amount of baggage 1000 miles at 200 mph?
Even if these numbers are not quite attainable, what general layout would be most likely to get close?
It seems like every design has to trade off something for desirable characteristics in another area.
But, simply put, I want an airplane that can go from my farm strip to another farm strip 1000 miles away in time for lunch.
