I thought I understood the design space of this connection, with threads like this discussing the space a bit.

What the heck is going on with the RV-8? Why eight bolts? Why two different sizes? Ignoring the small bolts... why four bolts? Can someone talk through what forces are being reacted how and why this might make sense?
