Sad news from Wisconsin today. We lost J-Bird to a UL crash. Local news outlet reports that a person reported seeing him go down in a field. He was apparently conscious when emergency crews arrived but succumbed to his injuries before he could be extracted.

Jim was a proponent of alternative engines for ultralight use and was a popular source for Kawasaki engine conversions, among others.

He was always cheerful and had a story to share. We will be sad to not see his smiling face at gatherings.

From the EAA Chapter UL1 leadership:

=====

I just learned earlier today (Wednesday) of the passing of Jim "J-Bird" Jaeger, a longtime UL1 member and ultralight enthusiast. You can find a picture of Jim's Kasperwing on the front page of the September Microlite Flyer. Jim passed away from injuries sustained from the crash of his ultralight during an apparent test flight late Monday afternoon. Below you will find a link (and copy of the text) to his obituary. Visitation is this morning (Thursday) at 10:00 am in Kewaskum. Sorry for the late notification. Hopefully some of you will be able to make it.
