Hey everyone! Long time reader of the forum here and I’ve been thinking over this idea for a long while. I’ve got plans to build a Wag Aero sportsman in the future, but I was looking to get my feet wet and build an ultralight first before tackling the bigger project. Now to clarify, I would be building under Canada’s ultralight rules which allows me a greater gross weight and is not restricted to 254 pounds, much like USA’s LSA rules.

I love the look of the Kimbrel Banty as well as the Steward Headwind, but I always run into the same issues with these small homebuilt aircraft, not enough cockpit space and not enough useful load. I’m no small man at 6’7 and 260 pounds, which definitely puts a end to a lot of my ideas, but I was wondering if you guys knew about something a bit bigger with the same mission.

Ideally something much like the Banty or Headwind. High wing, one seat, tube and fabric steel fuselage or possibly wood, and enough useful load for myself and a bit of fuel! Simple to build would also be a bonus, which was the initial allure of the Banty and Headwind. If there was an easy way to just scale up the Banty, I would build it! What’s everyone’s opinion?
Thanks,
Andrew
