In a thread about firewalls and FWF fires, DanH pointed out that the firewall really is about buying time. This thread is to discuss what you, the pilot, will do with that time.

Please explain both why and how.

Answers / plans likely will be different for different aircraft. For example, options for rapidly descending in a Pitts are different from the options in a Sportsman.
