Tiger Tim got me going and now I'm refining the design of a Swept Wing Parasol that is a mash-up of the Marquette Racer, the Corbin and Pober' Super Ace, the Stolp SA-500 Starlet and the Glen Beets GB-1. Having built a Pietenpol Air Camper, I know that my talent shines best when I work in wood. So, I'd like to explore geodetic construction and see if I can make an appealing, light and strong structure with all those cool little pieces of wood. Pops SSSC and his slightly bigger JMR are my inspiration for method and perseverence.
I'm an old guy, but I can still draw and do bench work so I'm going to keep at it. I'm slowly building up the Corvair engine for it right now. and have been collecting bits and pieces appropriate to the "Rumble Seat Parasol" for ages. I think I've found a source for Sitka Spruce; if not, I can use slightly thinner pieces of Douglas Fir. I can get really nice very old growth fir in long lengths out of Navy warehouses that were built a hundred and twenty years ago and torn down near here. Recycled wood is a big thing these days.
