Working on a project to build a firewall forward, hybrid power plant based on UL520T as the prime mover that, we hope, will rival IO-540 in terms of performance. We’ve done some calcs on paper and believe the following is achievable:
  • Comparable size, but sightly lighter and quieter than IO-540
  • 10 minutes of burst power of 400hp+
  • 10% improved fuel economy and compatibility with Mogas fuel
  • Emergency backup power storage system in case of engine failure
  • Improved high-altitude operations

Looking for folks with strong experience in assembling and certifying kit planes to consult us on the efforts along the way. You can send a direct message or post here, if intersted. We'd be happy to pay for the help or help offset the cost of kit(s) you are currently building.

We are currently targeting RV-10 kit as a base model, but could accommodate the build to fit other kits with similar size engine bay as RV-10. So if you have experience or currently building an RV-10 definitely a plus.

Also would love to hear general sentiment from the community members: Interesting idea? Stupid idea? References to other projects (both failed and successful) who tried the same.
