So...when my plane first flew in 2021, the pilot commented she was a sweet flying plane. We had added 25 lbs of ballast, as the tail in a level flight attitude weighed zero pounds.
After the rebuild, we removed the 25 lbs ballast. We weighed the plane, and the scales were faulty, giving us bad numbers. It turns out that my tail now weighs 2 lbs. Yes, 2 lbs!
When John Williams flew my plane last August, his first comment was it is very pitch sensitive. VERY sensitive!
My test pilot also noted nose heavy characteristics in the landing flare.
John Williams told me we need 30-35 lbs on the tail, in level attitude. Bill Koleno said 25-30 pounds.
I will add 25 pounds to the very aft tail section now. What impact on handling will this have? Will the plane again be sweet handling, or will it continue to be extremely pitch sensitive?
