Have you checked cowl clearance? The lower right cowl cheek may be pretty close to the exhaust stack muff and Scat tubing. It may be fine but I'd thought I'd mention it as a heads-up.

Yes I had the lower cowl on but I did have to make an opening in the bottom for carb heat box clearence. It seems to be a common mod to have a belly scoop. Where I get one is not clear yet. The muff that surrounds the exhaust stack was only two inch tubing which wont allow enough air to pass by the stack to support combustion IMHO. I bought a larger piece of tubing yesterday on the way home and will fabricate and install. If things go as usual, I still have two more tries to get the final product. :)

My daughter lives in Texas and I do get out there from time to time and will come see you when the opportunity comes up.

In the mean time since yours flys already, saddle up and visit me I could use your help. ;D

I was planning something very similar, just in my head Put a longer pipe through both exhaust pipes and then hooked it up to the firewall and or carb. This would require one on each side for each function. I'm worried about both the cowl and pipes fitting snug and praying that there will be no pin-holes in the exhaust pipes :-X.

of course I need a fuselage, some wings and an engine first ::), but its good to think ahead....I'm still working on plywood rib blanks :eek: :eek: :eek:

So now that were back on 4 cyl.'s I thought I'd see if the carb heat works. Appears I still have a bit more work to do with sealing my carb box.

Question for those that are using carb heat. Realistically are you seeing a 100 to 200 rpm drop with heat applied?

Better than an rpm drop, get one of those $10 digital indoor/outdoor thermometers available at Autozone. Put the outdoor probe in your carb inlet and measure the temperature change when appling carb heat. The increase should be at about 40-50 deg f. I don't get 200 rpm drop, but I do get the temp rise. A poorly designed system can give you the rpm drop with no rise in temp.
 
As a matter of fact I did think of probing the inlet to see if ANYTHING was happening, just didnt get there YET. Did you leave the probe in permanently?
