I’m going to be flying an open cockpit single seat gyroplane I’m restoring, and I’m looking for affordable helmet options. This will be a high noise open air environment so I’m considering the in ear HaloPhone headphone/ noise reduction mic option. I’ll be using a handheld radio.

This in the ear headphone option opens up more helmet options. HaloPhone told me it should work with my full face modular motorcycle helmet, for instance. But that helmet definitely limits visibility.

Would a MIPS e bike, snowboard or rock climbing helmet be adequate, for instance?

Are there any other helmets with good field of view that are not originally intended for aircraft use that might be a viable option?

If I need to just bite the bullet and buy a “real” pilot’s helmet, I swill of course.
