Just some speculative engineering I guess, but has anyone considered building a 1/2 VW with two left (or right) cylinders ? Using a common head, as designed might eliminate the hassle of individual heads. & add stiffness to the complete unit plus eliminating a lot of pipes. Crank balance could be worked out using weld on counterweights. They worked fine on the Carr conversions. A fly in the ointment though could be a rocking couple induced by the firing pulses. Mounted cylinders down it could be a slick installation in a very narrow fuselage (Hummel U/C).
