I've drilled into tube before, but into small tube with small holes. I'm now trying to drill a 3/4" hole into a .065 tube 1.25" wide. I tried a step bit, stepless bit and and a Z bit (just to get something). I'm using a drill press and the speed was correct but I tried a slower speed to see if it helps. I'm also applying fluid. Lot's of smoke and glowing metal. I'm maybe halfway in.
I get the feeling it shouldn't be this difficult. The Z bit is ruined with a notch now showing in the cutting edge. What am I doing wrong, and do you have any suggestions?
