A Chinese entity has announced a small nuclear battery that produces power for about 50 years. Other previous Russian devices last even longer. Some of these batteries have an energy density 10x better than present lithium battery chemistries, and they pose no fire risk.
Nirvana! The much-desired 10x energy density improvement we've all wanted and no fire risk!
(Spoiler alert: The challenge? Power density. The newly announced 15mm x 15mm x 5 mm Chinese battery provides 1 milliwatt for 50 years).
In this video, Robert Murray-Smith describes how these tiny batteries work, tells how a tinkerer could craft his own DIY battery using available materials, then he does it. It should produce power (not much) for a few hundred years (if the transistor survives).

Warning: For educational use only, do not do this at home. Ionizing radiation is dangerous. Do not eat.
