Hey all, a friend of mine is going to go look at a disassembled Koala in a couple weeks and because I made the mistake of saying another low power low buck flivver would be fun he asked if I wanted to go half in on it. Sure, I’m up for adventure, but…
1. Is there any hope for a tall guy to squeeze into one? I’m 6’5” but pretty evenly proportioned.
2. I don’t believe it has an engine but I’m partial to four stroke power. Is there a popular choice here or are they generally seen as too heavy?
3. How about cheap-ish covering? I grew up on Ceconite and have no problems with it but I’d be curious about whether there are any good alternatives in the UL world. I hear Oratex is kind of annoying for the first timer to work with and expensive anyways, but the promised light weight certainly appeals. I seem to remember the Sky Pup plans specifying some sort of pre-coloured unshrunk Dacron, is something like that still available? As a lifelong stick and tissue model I do like the idea of a translucent wooden framed ultralight.
