I bought a can of zinc chromate (has a green cap) for my steel and aluminum fittings. I read the label about preparing the material.

1) what works well to adequately clean the parts
2) these parts already have black magic marker on them so I know where each piece goes and which side faces up, etc. I assume I need to remove all that and try to recall what goes where after I apply the zinc chromate.

Thank you!
