Hey guys I am building a double eagle and looking at the spar the plans call for a ladder construction with plywood. I know that many planes use a spar that is much thicker. I asked lenard the designer and he said not to use a solid spar because of weight.
My question is what is the strongest spar that could be put in this thing? Is there any reason why I couldn't use a solid spar, I know it's heavier but what about strength? The double eagle spar seems mighty weak it's maybe a 1" x 2" that runs the length of the spar on the top and bottom. Then everywhere there is a rib there is a 1x2" or so that runs vertical. Then plywood over it.
How are other spars constructed?
