This is a fascinating subject and no one has ever been able to answer this question . Milled fibre is very short in length maybe 1 or 2mm but slows cracking when its mixed with fillers and bog !!
The glass strand length within chopped strand matt is close to 50 mm long mostly !!
I have removed cutter blades out of a chopper gun to give a mix of 100mm plus 50 m long strands and the longer strands made a very slight increase In the stiffness of panels we were making ! not one person noticed any difference during the laminating process .
During the building process is always best to not have any short lengths of fabrics any where in the construction !!Even hulls 100 foot long its easy to use full length rolls of glass starting at one end and finishing at the other with no cutting or overlaps or joins any were ! with a little shopping around even found wide rolls of fabrics so didn't need side joins !!
