I've never been around a Jabiru engine... but I'm scratching my head over the numbers. We know that an aluminum VW engine case is much heavier than the magnesium version. Jabiru uses aluminum cases (much heavier than magnesium) and yet, the Jabiru 2200 weighs about the same as a VW even when you fit the VW with aluminum cylinders. Scott Casler advertises his 4-cylinder hand-start single-ignition engines with aluminum cylinders at 137 pounds. Jabiru claims their 2200 with alternator and starter weighs 134 pounds. Where do they save all that weight? It can't be the crankshaft, rods, or pistons... the engine would come apart. Has anyone actually weighed a Jabiru?
