I figure the wood builders may know an answer to this. I've reviewed los of plans for wood build aircraft but I haven't seen much or any information on what to do if your plans call for 17 foot 1 inch by 1 inch longerons and the longest you can find are 12 foot. I have not seen anywhere on any plans I've looked at a recommended (scarf?) joint...I've seen them for tube but not spruce. In my work with high tensions guitar necks that need part of the neck repaired, I cut as along as practical scarf joint plus add two stints longer than the joint... it will never break. I don't think I'm reading these[plans wrong... thought? My first thought is to never do a scarf joint, or any joint, on a longeron... A slow Tuesday.... ;)
