Been a lot of talk around the airport lately about Baby Aces since the two local ones have returned to service after a multi-year hiatus. Murmurs of maybe tooling up and building a couple more and all that. Were an odd bunch who like old things and really believe the future of light recreational GA lies in Canadian UL and US LSA so long as expectations are managed appropriately.

To that end, I’d sort of mused on how the Baby Ace came out in the mid-1930s and saw updates and a second round of popularity twenty years later. Is it overdue for a resurgence today? If so, what would be changed for the modern builder/flyer? I was thinking opening up the cockpit 2-3 inches in every direction, Grove gear, and maybe a metal wing like a sort of baby Bearhawk. For power it seems like a Jabiru or Rotax 912 would be right at home, or a Corvair for the budget-conscious.

Thoughts?
