Offering for sale:

1997 RANS S-12 Airaile. I’ll put as much information as I can in this ad, however, please don’t hesitate to contact me (eMail or Phone) with any questions or requests.

The aircraft flies and handles great however see the next section reference the engine currently on the airplane.

The aircraft was designed around the ROTAX 582 (a 2-stroke engine developing 65 horsepower). The previous owner wanted a 4-stroke engine and swapped the Rotax for a Generac 992 cc engine. The Generac develops approximately 42 horsepower compared to the design goal of the 65 horsepower Rotax. Flying the aircraft on a cool morning or evening with just myself onboard is outstanding. With 2 occupants on the aircraft is a bit anemic. (I researched swapping the Generac for a Rotax engine and estimate approximately $7000.00 for the change).

I purchased the aircraft in 2018 with every intention of upgrading the engine and keeping the aircraft. Circumstances have changed and I now need to sell the aircraft, hopefully to someone who wants to give it good home!

The airplane in out of “annual inspection” (though I believe that it’s more of an ‘on condition’ inspection for this class of aircraft). The skin is tight and there are no rips or tears in the fabric though. Main tires and a battery are the only other items of my concern. I can discuss with the buyer on the initial contact at their request.

I purchased the airplane for $11,900.00 in 2018. I drove from southern Illinois to Oregon and trailered it home. (That being said, if the buyer is interested, I have the trailer and I’m willing to offer it for sale for the new owner to trailer the plane home).

I have watched as similar aircraft sell for upwards of $25,000.00 (of course those aircraft do not need the time and attention as does mine). Reasonable offers considered. The only trade that I would be interested in is anything leading to the now ‘out-of-business’ LOEHLE 5151 MUSTANG. (Plans, aircraft, or any portion thereof considered).

The aircraft has always been hangered and currently lives at the PICKNEYVILLE-DuQUOIN AIRPORT. The airport code is KPJY.

Please contact me with questions. Do not be offended if I don’t get back to you right away as I’m currently working full time and will be in and out of touch. This would have been easier if I had waited until July or August as I am planning to retire before then. Foe the moment, I do need to sell the aircraft so I will apologize in advance for any issues contacting me.

Thanks for reading!

I believe that the original seller of this aircraft still has a video on-line. Search for the Rans S-12 for sale or search for the registration number of the aircraft (N3966)j for the video.
