Is there some plans/kits available for this aircraft?
We are currently building a new-build Rapture Bug from new molds that will look and perform identically to the original Lightning Bug. The new Rapture Bug will incorporate all the lessons that we have learned from our testing and experience building and flying several of the original Lightning Bugs.
We are currently flying the original Lightning Bug registered VH-EMK here in Australia. That Bug is powered by the 120hp Jabiru 3300 engine with a ground adjustable 2 bladed 54" Bolly prop and has a fixed nosegear. Top speed is currently at around 195ktas and it cruises comfortably at 180kts.

We have also flown N44XM in the US in which we installed a 100hp Rotax 912ULS with a fixed pitch prop and retractable nosegear. That aircraft topped out at about 185ktas with a comfortable cruise of 160ktas.

We are currently restoring Nick Jones 3rd prototype Bug (N200NJ) here in Australia. We will be testing it with another engine.

Our new build Bug has the following list of changes from the original Lightning Bug:

1. The fuselage is now cored-skin rather than the centre structural keel that ran from the nose to the tail. This opens up a lot more real estate within the cockpit area, allowing the seat to sit slightly lower which will help the tall pilots. The seatback will also be reclined slightly more again to help fit in tall pilots.
2. The wing is being moved forward about 6". This is to address the typical forward cg issue associated with heavier engines that are and will be used. This means that the pilot will have even more room to fit in.
3. The original single piece wing is being replaced with a left and a right wing that will be pinned in the centre section and will be removable. This will facilitate easier transport.
4. The powerplant that is going into our new build is a 145hp fuel injected turbocharged engine. This engine offers 135hp maximum continuous power at 10,000' so a cruise speed well north of 200ktas should be possible.
5. The new kit will be way easier to build than the original.

The new fuselage has been at Oshkosh several times. The new wings are about to be commenced with a planned completion date for the new wings to be end of year.

Our aim is to get this Bug finished asap, get it flying, let people see it, and hopefully sell some kits. We (Rapture Aviation) will have a website established soon where details can be seen in relation to progress and eventually kits. I'll post website details here on HBA in due course. We do have a Facebook page already for those that still use that platform. It is at Rapture Aircraft .
