To begin, I have been a long time enthusiast of Ultralights, and have always wanted to build my own.
I had an idea in looking at two of the common ultralight designs, and may be in a want my cake and eat it too situation. I am extremely comfortable doing metal work and uncomfortable doing wood work in areas where my life is concerned, thus my main query:
Would it be possible to attach the affordaplane wing to the legal eagle xl's body?
What do i need to calculate to see if this would be an exercise in futility? The square footage of the wings are as follows the legal eagle xl has a 120.3 sq. ft wing with a 23.4 foot wingspan and the affordaplane a 117 sq. ft wing with a 27.5 foot wingspan.
I want to stay away from the affordaplane because of its inability to be 103 compliant, but the wood skin especially on the LE XL makes me nervous.
Anyone know more about these two birds to help me out?
I have heard of aluminum frame wings being used on a LE craft before, but I would like something that I could build myself, and the affordaplane's wing looks sturdy and easy to build.
Thank you for your patience, and I apologize if my inexperience is headache-inducing if i'm missing elementary details.
