...First step is being able to do all the main structure calcs. After that, get familiar with centroid and stiffness calcs for homogenous material (aluminum). For composites (natural and man-made) you must get fancier. Timoshenko covers the basics, we can expand it to our structures here...

I don't want to derail oriol's excellent thread, but I know there are other people out there like me, just starting on this journey oriol is taking who might also benefit from the question:

@wsimpso1 do you have a recommended reading list for structures, on the path you describe above? I've collected most of the books in Orion's Structures resources list, down to Jones' Mechanics of Composite Materials, but really they're just paperweights at the moment. I have no strong idea where I should start. For purposes of the discussion here, assume that I know little or nothing about structures, and want to learn to the point of being able to safely engineer a light airplane structure in composites.

Suggestions?
