Having frequented this forum, on and off for a number of years, I am curious how many members are:
1. Home aircraft builders
2. Certified pilots
3. Airplane owners, certified or EAB
4. Just dreaming about building an airplane
5. Realize that building a plane is pretty much an insane undertaking
My dreams for the Mustang started in 1994. It took a long time to pull the trigger. 2012 is when I wrote a check to Titan. Took delivery of the fast build kit in August, 2013.
Had hundreds of volunteers helping me with the build.
The plane first flew in June, 2021. So, 8 years from delivery to first flight. Not too bad!
Then destroyed on July 6, 2021.
Rebuilt over 18 months, and flying again August, 2023.
At times my dream turned into a nightmare. The journey has had many highs, and many lows. I suppose that is par for the course for most any homebuilt aircraft.
Often I thought the money would have been better spent on that nice condo, in Vail, Colorado. But the pilots who own and actually fly the T-51 claim it's a life changing experience, all for the better.
