Just getting components ready for building custom fuel tanks in the wings, the tanks will be made of .032 2024 aluminium riveted and pro-sealed. I am trying to work out the easiest way to attach the fuel lines / vent tubes etc.

Standard install from bingelis books is to use a pipe thread welding flange, insert a finger screen and then a AN 816 from the pipe thread to a AN tube nipple to attach the 3/8 aluminium fuel line.

Is there a way to forgo the welding flanges and NPT pipe fittings and just use AN sizes all the way with a AN815 union installed on the fuel tank skin and use the 3/8 fuel line as both the pickup tube attached to the AN815 installed in the fuel tank wall? Obviously i would put a filter screen on the fuel pick up as well.

would the .032 2024 be strong enough for the AN815 union installed directly on it etc. the RV's seems to do this but they also have a removable face plate for mounting them on.

Thanks

Nick
