well i am tickled pink, finally got to start the sonerai today. was music to my ears. tack is way off, must have it wired wrong at idle it shows 5000 rpm, but that didn't rain on my parade. sounded sooooo good.
wish i had built it with eletric start, kinda freaky starting it, but never the less I'm happy happy.

Congratulations on the first start. I remember mine and I remember the fear of hand-propping for the first time. You'll become more comfortable hand-propping over time but, as you know, ALWAYS respect the prop and don't let your guard down.

What kind of tach do you have? If it is a Tiny Tach setup on the mag, you may have the wrong model. You need 4C. The Tiny Tach clones like the ENM shown below and sold by GPASC at one time, is programmable so no need to worry about what model you need.

if its a tiny teach.call them up and tell them your problem.I bought a 2c and should have bought a 4c they just had me send it back and they replaced it.no charge.

I don't know if vw motors have a external coil.could you be wraped around the coil wire insted of a spark plug wire?
Mike

when you wrap it on the coil wire, you will become 4xrpm, because each ignition per cylinder is on the
coil wire, its the sum. Example:
1250rpm x 4 = 5000pulse/minute!

Hi Rick
Glad you loved this magic music...

In the case of a Tiny tach rpm ...
It may be way off because the sensing wire has too many turns around the plug wire ,or it may sense another nearby lead so reads two plugs...
Juregen refers to a distributor ignition system, having one coil for all 4 plugs...
