composite panels !! do you make foam shaped frames and glass over them ??

When making glass fuselage panels does any one make a foam shape and stick it to the panel and then glass over it to form the actual frame work ??
What glass is generally use to glass over the foam?
What Is the size and shape of the foam ?
And what foam I used to form the frame Shape ?
