I’m starting a thread on the teardown, construction, and horsepower testing of a 1/2 VW type engine, based upon a Certified Limbach 2 liter aircraft engine.
This particular engine is by far, the roughest looking engine that I have. All of these are at or near TBO. I pulled the heads, cylinders and pistons today and took a few photos. Amazingly little wear and tear here on these Mahle nikasil cylinders and pistons. You can clearly see the machine marks on the pistons and original crosshatch on the cylinders. No ridge can be felt and the ring end gaps are on the small end of allowable clearance. The engine is in such good condition I pondered briefly whether or not I should cut this little 2 liter stroker in half.
