I've been obsessing about getting my EAA 1000 benches flat across the lengths and diagonals lately and have built three tops all with different, small, errors. I don't know the right way to describe how much, but when I set a 6-ft level (using it as a straightedge) across the lengths and diagonals, one side is always an 1/8th in or 3/16ths at its widest opening. Who knew flat and square would be so god darned hard!

Anyway, how much does that matter ? If it's a lot, how do I built that top support so the MDF sits flat on it?

Thanks in advance, its driving me nuts!
